Solar With No Credit Check

Solnr does not run a credit check. Not to see if you qualify, not to get a quote, and not to move forward. There is no minimum score, no FICO requirement, and no credit inquiry at any stage. If credit is the reason you assumed solar was not available to you, that reason does not apply here.

Why almost everyone else requires good credit

Most residential solar is sold through loans. The homeowner borrows to buy the system, and a lender underwrites that loan the same way they would any other. That means a credit score, usually in the high 600s or above, sometimes higher.

That model works reasonably well in suburban neighborhoods with high home values and homeowners who have built credit over decades. It works badly almost everywhere else, and it works especially badly for manufactured home communities. The result is a whole category of homeowners who are shut out of solar not because their home cannot support it, but because a lender's scorecard said no.

Our model

Why we do not need one

Our model is different, and the difference is why the credit check is unnecessary rather than merely waived. You are not borrowing money. There is no loan to underwrite, because there is nothing to buy. You pay nothing upfront, you do not purchase equipment, and you do not finance a system. What you do instead is pay a locked-in rate for the power your system produces, lower than what you are paying now.

Without a loan in the middle of the transaction, there is no lender asking about your credit history, and no reason for us to ask either.

Who this matters for

Who this matters for

Manufactured home communities include a lot of people the traditional lending model handles poorly: retirees living on fixed incomes who may have excellent payment history but thin recent credit activity; homeowners who went through a bankruptcy, a foreclosure, or a medical event years ago and are still carrying it on their report; people who have deliberately avoided credit and have little or no score as a result; and households where income is steady but does not look the way an underwriter expects.

None of that affects whether your home can produce solar power, and none of it affects whether you can work with us.

Frequently asked questions

Do you run a credit check for solar?

No. There is no credit check at any point, no minimum score, and no credit inquiry on your report. Credit is not part of how we determine whether your home qualifies.

Can I get solar with bad credit?

Yes. Credit is not a factor. What matters is your home and your park, specifically your roof and how your space is metered, not your credit history.

What if I have no credit history at all?

That is fine. No credit history is treated the same as any other situation, because credit is not part of the evaluation.

Will asking for a quote affect my credit score?

No. There is no inquiry of any kind, soft or hard, so nothing touches your credit report.

If there is no credit check, what do you actually look at?

Your home and your space: roof condition and area, and how your park is metered, and whether the site works for a system.

Is this a loan or a lease?

Neither, in the sense that you are not buying or financing equipment. You pay a locked-in rate for the power the system produces, with nothing due upfront. Here is how it works.
